Magyar Tudomanyos Akademia Okologiai Kutatokozpont - MTA ÖK (Hungary)

The Centre for Ecological Research of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA ÖK) is a newly founded research entity, consisting of three former research institutes of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. MTA ÖK is active in basic and applied research in the fields of ecology and conservation biology. Major research topics include long-term dynamics of communities, habitat mapping, biodiversity monitoring, and the evaluation of different farmland and forestry management regimes from the perspective of biodiversity and ES.

MTA ÖK coordinates the Hungarian LTER network. MTA ÖK and its legal predecessors have a long tradition of studying complex policy-oriented research questions, and performing regional ecosystem assessments in policy sensitive landscapes. MTA ÖK and its predecessors have also successfully participated in a number of international research projects in environmental science and applied ecology including INCREASE (EU FP7, 2009-2013), EnvEurope (EU LIFE+; 2010-2012), ExpeER (EU FP7, 2010-2014), KNEU (EU FP7, 2011-2013) and the ongoing BioVeL (EU FP7, 2011-2013).
