Universitatea din Bucuresti – UB-DSES (Romania)
The Department of Systems Ecology and Sustainability/University of Bucharest (UB-DSES) consists of two complementary and interrelated units: (i) the Graduate School in Ecosystem Management of Natural Capital; and (ii) the Doctoral School and Research Centre in Systems Ecology and Sustainability. The applied conceptual models and approaches used by research staff allow complex issues at large space and time scales to be addressed.
The research expertise covers three major fields: (i) biological ecology (population/species, trophodynamic modules, dynamic structure and functions; (ii) ecosystem ecology; and (iii) systems ecology and sustainability (e.g. nested socio-ecological systems in large watersheds and the dynamic relationships among their biophysical structure of NC and social and industrial metabolism, as well the critical role played by social capital for operationalization of the concept of sustainable development).
