Institute of Landscape Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences – ILE SAS (Slovakia)
The Institute of Landscape Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (ILE SAS) is an interdisciplinary scientific institution for basic and applied research in landscape ecology. At present the main research tasks of the institute are: evaluating the influence of anthropogenic factors on the landscape, sustainable land use, ecological networks, preservation of biodiversity and geoecodiversity, and ES.
The methodology of landscape-ecological planning, LANDEP, which is included in Agenda 21 from the Rio Summit as the suggested methodology for an integrated approach to the management of natural resources (Chapter 10 in Agenda 21), was elaborated at the ILE SAS. The ILE SAS is Centre of Excellence for protection and utilisation of landscape and biodiversity. It has an important place within the frame of international cooperation. It takes part in many international projects, including projects in the 5th, 6th and 7th EC Framework Programmes. The Institute is also involved in education.
