Fundación Tecnalia Research & Innovation is a private, non-profit, leading research and technology organisation in Spain and the fifth largest in Europe, employing 1,445 people (164 PhDs) and with an income of 131 Million € in 2011. Tecnalia operates in the following market sectors: Industry and Transport, ICT, Sustainable Development, Innovation Systems, and Health and Quality of Life. Tecnalia is very active in FP7, participating in more than 200 projects and coordinating 46 of them. Tecnalia’s Unit of Environment will be involved in the OpenNESS project.
This Unit aims to develop sustainable and innovative solutions for environmental problems of industry and society, promoting efficiency in the use of resources, supporting the definition of sustainable strategies and environmental policies at sector and regional levels, including spatial planning strategies at regional and local levels. Activity areas of the Unit of Environment relate to urban sustainability, environmental quality and urban comfort, sustainable infrastructures, adaptation to climate change, mitigation of climate change, land use and regional sustainability, integral water cycle management, efficient use of resources, contaminated soils, eco-innovation and eco-efficiency, environmental risk assessment, and new materials for improving the environment.
